THE ARTERY SHOW

26 April – 10 June 2012
For detailed information about The Artery Show visit: www.arteryshow.com. Click the image below to read The Artery Show newspaper, featuring all the inspirational contributors to the project: collectors, art professionals, exhibition venues and cultural institutions.

The Artery Show newspaper was distributed in the April edition of Kunstbeeld, the Netherlands’ primeur art magazine.

The Artery Show is a four-part exhibition and educational art project that takes an intimate view of the art world and how it functions. This ‘arterial’ system includes the artist as maker and entrepreneur, museums, art fairs, galleries, curators, corporate collections, auction houses and last, but certainly not least, the art consumer- the life blood of the entire system.

Discover artworks from more than 30 private collections and learn more about your own art likes and dislikes. Inspired by the idea of the art object as a ‘conversation piece’: a catalyst for experiences and relationships among like-minded people. The Artery Show builds on relational aesthetics and post-production, concepts developed by (French curator and critic) Nicolas Bourriaud, to unlock the mysteries and delights of living with art and participating in the art ecosystem. The Artery Show offers opportunities to reflect, socialise and participate against a backdrop of artworks that offer us a new and other view of our city.

The exhibition covers various aspects of collecting art: from an aesthetic or commercial point of view, to the occasional and impulsive acquisitions. Works by Francis Bacon, Lucebert, Anton Mauve, Joachim Bandau, Ben Akkerman, Billy Childish, Gertjan Scholte-Albers, Theo Voorzaat, Rudi Bastiaans and many others will be made public, together with personal stories and insights from the participating collectors.

The main exhibition is supported by parallel exhibitions at Cabinodd, zw/artprojects and gallery Beeld & Aambeeld, each focusing on a different aspect of The Artery Show program. The exhibition at Cabinodd gallery focuses on the role of an arts consultancy and gallery as an intermediary and (inter)national collaborations with works by gallery artists Birgitta Sundström Jansdotter, Kwon Kyungyup, Buddy Nestor, Mr. Sauli, Saturno Buttò, Kirsten Wilmink and Ludmilla van der Spoel. zw/artprojects is presenting works by artists from Enschede: Ben Kruisdijk, Susan Pinkster and Valerie Zwart and their role as creators and cultural entrepreneurs. Last but not least, gallery Beeld & Aambeeld is showing the unique art collection from the private collector Stefan Kuks who has developped a passion for collecting since college days and has continued collecting art since then.

Cabinodd is often called a gallery, but it is essentially a ‘shape shifter’; an intermediary, curator, organizer of exhibitions, corporate art services and an art agency. The concept of Cabinodd as a presentation space is based on the ‘Kunst-und Wunderkammer’ or ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’, a personal collection of objects and wonders from around the world. This is partly the working method of the owner Ella Buzo, to whom location plays no role in exploring and presenting new talent. With this in mind Cabinodd provides a platform for a group of Dutch and international artists with a gallery space in Enschede as a home base.

Cabinodd offers its artists a wide platform for presenting their work. This can be by solo and group presentations at Cabinodd, cooperation with other galleries, participation in art fairs, corporate art services to companies and collaborative projects as The Artery Show and Dreamscapes. During The Artery Show Cabinodd offers a look at the modern Wunderkammer with a collection of contemporary and wonderful art by gallery artists Birgitta Sundström Jansdotter (SE), Kirsten Wilmink (DE), Kwon Kyungyup (KR), Buddy Nestor (US), Saturno Buttò (IT), Mr. Sauli (NL), Ludmilla van der Spoel (NL) and Mark Beerens (NL). This collection is presented in a SeARCH Architects-designed residence by Bjarne Mastenbroek and Uda Visser, which is partly furnished as a residential space and partly as a gallery. Owner Ella Buzo welcomes The Artery Show visitors in the cabinet of curiosities and invites them to get acquainted with the gallery artists and the ‘shape shifter’ model of Cabinodd as a business.
